Hands-On Training Availability

In order to participate in a hands-on training you must complete all associated online material. 

Hands-on Training Classes will be taught by leading industry professionals in the state of Kentucky. In your training, you will actually touch and do what you learned in the online lessons. You will learn industry-standard practices in your field as well as network with the professionals who have built the film industry in Kentucky. Cost of hands-on workshops may fluctuate and will be available based on trainers' availability.

ACCOUNTING AND LOGISTICS Hands-On

Learn how to be a Production Accountant Assistant from the Bill Wingate who has successfully navigated KY's tax incentive for multiple films. Bill has also worked as a Production Accountant on six films during the past three years that have had budgets that have ranged from $100,000 to multi-million dollar productions. Audio Department

In this two-day audio recording class, you will learn the step-by step approach to recording high-quality audio on set, from choosing the right microphones to learning how to use a boom mic.

CAmera Department Training

Learn the duties and responsibilities of the 1st and 2nd Assistant Camera person. The certification is an intensive two-day hands-on workshop taught by professional filmmaker Spencer Meffert.

Learn the craft of lighting from Steve Staley of Kentucky Light and Grip. Steve has over 30 years of television and motion picture production experience with 1000′s of credits as a DP or lighting director for projects in feature films, network television, documentaries and business communications. Training will take 2 days.

Locations Training

Learn how to create the backlot in the real world from Alan Forbes, the locations manager for The Avengers, The Ides of March and The Insider. In this three-day training you will cover script breakdowns, contracts, working with vendors and location scouting. Alan's IMDB Page

Production Assistant (PA) Training

This entry-level position provides support to assistant directors, production office, or assigned department head, and will expose you to virtually every aspect of the production process.

Set Construction & Scenic Painting

In this class you will learn how to construct a movie set, from building flats to painting and texturing the walls to building a floor and ceiling. You will also learn equipment safety and set-protocol.

Steadicam Workshop

The Steadicam training will be provided by representatives from Steadicam who have years of experience. The course director, David Svenson, has Steadicam credits from both television and film including: Homeland, Banshee, War Room, and Chasing Grace. Steadicam rigs will be provided.
